How is Botox Used?

Fine wrinkles and lines caused by facial expressions such as smiling and squinting can be improved by weakening the muscles that cause the lines to appear. Small injections of BOTOX® , Xeomin or Dysport will weaken these muscles for 3 to 4 months. The maximum effect of the injection is not seen for 4-7 days and will wear off after several months.

By carefully evaluating your facial structure and appearance during animation and while relaxed, the surgeon will be able to not only reduce visible wrinkles, but shape your brows and eyes. In some patients, the upper lips may be treated to produce a more full appearance.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is made from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It was originally used for the treatment of eye spasms in the 1970’s. In April, 2000 the FDA approved BOTOX® for the treatment of wrinkles. BOTOX® has been safely used in medicine for forty years. We participate in the Brilliant Distinctions Program.

What is Dysport®?

Dysport® is another injectable treatment for wrinkles made from the same neurotoxin (botulinum toxin type A) as Botox. Dysport (formally Reloxin) received the approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use as a wrinkle treatment in the spring of 2009, but it has been smoothing out facial folds and lines in Europe, South America, and elsewhere for several years. Like Botox, this injectable was originally developed in the 1990s to treat neuromuscular disorders.

Dysport frequently runs specials… check their website to see if there is a special now. www.dysportusa.com

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is the most recently released FDA-approved neurotoxin on the market (2011). It is a highly purified form of the protein used to relax wrinkles on the face. Xeomin treatments are very similar to Botox and Dysport. Some patients feel that one brand or another provides better results, but many choose based on the best offer currently available. Check our Facebook page and manufacturers’ websites for more information.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile.
