A brow lift is a procedure that is used to rejuvenate the forehead and the eyes to make you appear more rested, peaceful, and youthful. As we age, the muscles in our foreheads tense and pull on the skin of the brows and forehead, creating deep lines. Gravity pulls the eyebrows and tissue around the eyebrows downward over the eyes. This can create an extra fold of skin or even prevent the eyelids from opening completely. This is the reason that brow lift procedures are often performed with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dana Coberly, MD, offers advanced brow lift options that can improve a variety of aesthetic concerns and produce a more refreshed and youthful appearance.

What Are the Benefits of a Brow Lift?
A brow lift is a popular cosmetic treatment that can benefit men and women alike. Some of the more prominent advantages offered by a brow lift include:
- Lifting brows that are contributing to a sagging/drooping effect over the eyes to improve range of vision
- Addressing signs of aging in the upper face to create a more youthful and refreshed appearance
- Reducing signs of forehead creases and wrinkles/furrows between the eyebrows
- Relieving muscle tension in the forehead
Am I a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?
Patients with brows that drop too low when they relax the forehead, who have wrinkles in the forehead from constantly lifting up the eyebrows, or who have extra skin over the eyelids may be candidates for brow lifts. These patients often appear “angry” even when they are not. A brow lift can make a remarkable difference in the apparent age of your face.
Our board-certified plastic surgeon will help choose the best vector to restore a “younger you”. Once you have been evaluated during the initial consultation, Dr. Coberly can determine whether a brow lift procedure is the most ideal option for your needs. If you are a good candidate for this treatment, Dr. Coberly can develop a customized treatment plan designed to achieve your goals with the most natural-looking results possible.
How Is the Brow Lift Surgery Performed?
There are several techniques that may be used to raise and secure the brows in a new position.
Open Brow Lift
An incision is made in the scalp behind the hairline and the scalp is lifted up down to the eyebrows. It is then re-secured in place, the extra scalp is removed, and the incision is then closed. This procedure generally is more powerful and more permanent than the endoscopic technique.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
This technique involves endoscopy to lift the scalp and divide muscles that cause the brow to furrow and wrinkle. This procedure is less invasive and involves a smaller incision in the scalp, but generally is not as permanent or as powerful as the open approach.
Hairline Brow Lift
This approach makes an incision at the hairline of the forehead, and extra forehead skin is removed instead of extra scalp and hair. This procedure is ideal for patients who have a high forehead.
Dr. Coberly will help you decide which procedure is best for you.
What Is the Brow Lift Recovery Process Like?
Most patients stay overnight after a brow lift, and will need someone to stay with them on their first night home. A small drainage tube is usually used overnight, and will be removed in 1-2 days. Tightness in the eyelids is normal and you may have a throbbing sensation for the first several days. Most patients are able to return to work once the swelling subsides in 7-10 days. The recovery period for many patients is typically about four weeks with restrictions.
How Noticeable Are Brow Lift Scars?
While the shape and size of brow lift scars often depend on the type of technique performed, Dr. Coberly works diligently to ensure scarring is as minimal as possible. With an endoscopic brow lift, scarring is typically hidden by hair as a small incision is made in the scalp. Additionally, the open brow and hairline technique involves an incision behind and at the hairline, which typically results in very discreet scarring that is barely noticeable, if noticeable at all, to others.
How Long Do Brow Lift Results Last?
For many patients, brow lift results can last for many years. Even though the natural aging process will continue to progress, outcomes from this surgery are known to continue long into the future as long as proper skincare routines and healthy lifestyles are maintained.
Is a Non-Surgical Brow Lift Possible?
Patients who are not ready to pursue a surgical brow lift procedure may benefit from non-surgical BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, depending on their particular aesthetic concerns. BOTOX® injections are administered into overactive muscles, often in the forehead and between the eyebrows, to help smooth wrinkles and relax facial tension. When performed as a “non-surgical brow lift,” BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can help minimize creases and wrinkles in the upper face for a more youthful and less stressed look.
While BOTOX® Cosmetic can help relieve some of the common aesthetic concerns affecting the upper facial region, non-surgical treatment cannot offer the same kind of long-lasting and high-quality results as a surgical brow lift, and it cannot address some of the specific conditions that a brow lift can improve. With that in mind, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections and a surgical brow lift procedure can often be performed in conjunction, particularly for patients with deep furrows between the brows, for the best possible results.
Additional non-surgical options include Morpheus8 treatment that combines microneedling and radiofrequency energy, as well as other neurotoxin injectables such as XEOMIN® and Jeuveau®. Fat transfer procedures can also provide facial rejuvenation and brow-area enhancements by harvesting fat from one region of the body and injecting it into targeted regions of the face. This option is capable of producing results that not only look natural, but also last extended periods of time for many patients.
How Much Does a Brow Lift Cost?
The cost of brow lift surgery typically varies from patient to patient. As treatment plans are tailored towards a patient’s specific needs and cosmetic goals, so will the price of the procedure. Factors that can contribute to the overall cost include:
- The type of brow lift that is performed
- The kind of surgical techniques that are utilized
- Anesthesia and surgeon’s fees
- Prescribed pain management medication
Once your personalized treatment plan is developed, a member of Dr. Coberly’s team will provide you with a customized cost.
