Where Can You Get Liposuction? | Top Lipo AreasLiposuction is an outpatient medical procedure that removes unwanted fat from the body. While the procedure can be done in many different areas, the most common body parts where patients want liposuction applied include the “love handles” around the waist, hips, upper arms, abdomen and thighs.

Liposuction Candidates

You should always consult with a professional before having liposuction performed – or any kind of cosmetic procedure. A plastic surgeon can determine whether you’re a good candidate for liposuction. That usually includes being about 30% within your ideal weight range, having firm skin and being a non-smoker.

The body areas below are among the most commonly addressed by liposuction. However, keep in mind that it can be used on other, less common areas when needed.

Love Handles

This is, technically, the area above the hip bones. In men, it’s called the “male flanks.” The term “love handles” describes fat that accumulates above the hips – in men, it’s often accentuated by tight belts to hold up pants. It also looks bigger from the back, as the fat tends to bulge there. For women, the ”flanks” are typically just below the bra line and the shoulder blades.

Hips

This one is primarily for women. Fat tends to deposit on the hips. This can lead to issues such as the “banana-shaped” bulge of fat between the bottom of the buttock and the top of the thighs. Fat on the thighs and hips is usually resistant to diet and exercise – it’s as much genetics as anything else. Lipo, in this case, is a dream come true for many women who have been unable to address these troublesome areas through diet and exercise alone. It also immediately makes them look better in clothes – and feel better, too.

Upper Arms

This is another area almost exclusively for women. The upper arms tend to become a repository for fat. If you are a good candidate, the satisfaction from getting liposuction in this area rivals and in many cases exceeds that felt from having lipo on the hips. The procedures can handle both excess fat and, if done with an experienced team and the right equipment, the excess skin that sometimes hangs from the upper arm.

Abdomen

For both men and women, the abdomen ranks among the most common areas to treat with liposuction. For women who have had children, a properly done liposuction procedure provides such great results that they do not need a “tummy tuck” surgical procedure. Lipo also can eliminate the bulge of fat that often forms above where an incision was made for a Cesarean section. For both men and women battling obesity, liposuction can support their efforts to remove fat from around the abdomen.

Thighs

Thighs are another popular area for lipo, especially for women. Some women can feel they have “two bodies,’ with their thighs not proportionate to the rest of their body. Liposuction can solve this problem. The procedure is done both on the outside of the thigh – the hip area mentioned above – and the inside of the thigh, where excess fat can cause the thighs to rub together.

These represent some of the most popular areas to have lipo done. It’s a relatively simple procedure that can solve many cosmetic and health issues. As more men and women become aware of the benefits, more will turn to use liposuction to make them feel better about their bodies and themselves.
